DetailDesigned in collaboration with heavy metal bassist Fred Leclercq, the ESP LTD Fred LeClerq FL-4 electric bass has an appearance and sound that's demonic in all the right ways. Its unique body shape was inspired by the Forest series, but Leclercq added an evil, jagged cutout on the lower bout. Covered in a Satin Black finish that bursts to Blood Red on the edges, the FL-4 looks downright sinister. It features neck-through-body construction, pairing an alder body with a 5-piece maple/purpleheart neck for balanced tone and sustain. The Macassar ebony fingerboard has extra-jumbo stainless steel frets designed for speed riffing and shredding. With its focused, aggressive tone provided by an EMG 35P pickup, the FL-4 is built for metal mayhem. Demonic Body Shape Designed by Fred Leclercq The unique body shape of the FL-4 was designed by Fred Leclercq himself, starting with the Forest series outline but adding an evil, jagged cutout on the lower bout that looks straight out of the underworld. Covered in a Satin Black finish that bursts to Blood Red on the edges, it has an appearance that matches its hellish tone. The sleek cutaway provides easy access to the upper frets for tapping and soloing. Shred in sinister style with the demonic design of the FL-4. Neck-Through Construction for Sustain and Tone The FL-4 features neck-through construction for excellent sustain and tone. Its 5-piece maple/purpleheart neck runs seamlessly through the alder body for enhanced resonance and a balanced sound. The thin, flat profile offers comfort for fast riffing, while the Macassar ebony fingerboard further enhances clarity and note articulation. Unleash singing sustain and dynamic tone with the FL-4's neck-through design. Focused Metal Tone from EMG 35P Pickup To power its aggressive metal tone, the FL-4 has an EMG 35P pickup mounted directly into the body wood for tight lows and biting highs. With its focused midrange and compressed output, the 35P pickup is perfect for heavy styles from thrash to death metal. Dial in the sinister distorted tone you need to pummel the crowd with the brutal EMG 35P. Built for Speed with Extra-Jumbo Frets Designed for high-speed metal playing, the Macassar ebony fingerboard of the FL-4 has 24 extra-jumbo stainless steel frets. The generous height allows for easy bending and vibrato techniques. Combined with the thin, flat neck profile, the jumbo frets facilitate fast riffing across the fingerboard. The FL-4 gives you the speed you need to keep pace with metal's fastest shredder.
