DetailThe AKG Drum Set Session 1 seven-piece microphone pack includes the mics, drum-shell clamps and stand adapters to capture the sounds of up to a five-piece kit for live performances and studio sessions. With models selected from the gig-tested AKG Perception Live series, the Drum Set Session 1 provides you with a P2 large-diaphragm dynamic mic (for bass drums), four P4 high-performance dynamic mics (for toms and snares) and two P17 small-diaphragm condenser mics (for overheads). All of the microphones can handle brutal sound-pressure levels, so you won’t experience clipping kick drums, distorted snares or smeared cymbal sounds. In addition, the polar pattern for each model is cardioid, which means signals that aren’t directly in front of the microphone capsule are diminished to prevent sounds bleeding into the mic from other instruments. Set up is quick and easy with the included H440 Adapter Plates and clips for the P4 dynamics that let you securely attach the mics on the rims of the toms and snare. The only mic stands you’ll need are for the two P17 overheads and the P2 kick drum mic, so there won’t be a jungle of stands surrounding the kit taking up valuable stage real estate. True to its name, the AKG Drum Set Session 1 is an excellent go-to kit for miking drums, but it’s also an outstanding mic collection for other instruments. For example, the P2 has a warm, low-end response for miking bass amps, cajons and percussion, and the airy and clear expression of the P17 condensers can capture stereo perspectives of acoustic guitars, string sections, background vocalists, acoustic pianos and more. The P4 mics are tough and coherent enough to handle raging guitar amps, brass sections, gongs and cowbells, and may even be able to tame an intense, wailing vocalist who overpowers conventional vocal microphones. If you’re just beginning to mic drums on stage or in the studio, the AKG Drum Set Session 1 seven-piece microphone pack is a well-stocked starter kit. But with its five dynamics, two condensers, mounting clamps and a carrying case, the Drum Set Session 1 is also a brilliant value for experienced live-sound engineers and home-recording musicians who need good-quality mics on a budget.
